This past weekend I finished the first draft of Book 4 of the Can This Be Real series and started on Book 5. I also got some feedback from an editor, Christina Rose Andrews (they’re amazing) from an anthology I’m working on, and holy shit, it changed my whole perspective. I’ve been in a writing slump lately, and the feedback helped me to realize why that was. Somehow I slipped into writing only the bare bones of a story, and it was making it hard for me to connect to my characters. Well, I’m proud to say that I figured out a way to get back into the writing zone!
First off, my main problem was that I was exhausted when I got home from work. I found a work around by blasting music and singing along with my favorite songs on the drive home. That kept me alert enough to start working on my story when I got home. I was literally typing in between cooking because my brain was so fired up.
Also, because of this, Book 4 and 5 will be published later than I originally intended. I’m shooting for next week, but that depends on how fast I get through working on the anthology. I’ll keep you all updated as I progress through all my different projects. Book 4 will be subjected to a thorough edit, and Book 5 is halfway done but will receive the same treatment. Then I’m going to go back through Book 1-3 and spruce those up as well. All the books in the series will get a new cover too.
Anyway, I’m tired and still a bit hungry, so I’m going to eat some chocolate cake and watch YouTube videos. Goodnight!
Much love, Dana Kenzi 🙂
