Even though I started off as an erotica author under this pen name, that’s not where I plan to stay forever. I know a lot of people suggest using different pen names for different genres, but I do not have the time or energy to manage all of that. That would only ever happen if I wanted to write Young Adult, Middle Grade, or Children’s books, and I can safely that’s not what I want to do.
I love a variety of genres, and I want to write in them. They’re all going to have romance in them, but I actually prefer books with a main plot and romance sprinkled on top. Either half and half or predominantly a non-romance genre. It’s the weirdest thing, I know, but hear me out.
I grew up watching science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies. My dad and maternal grandfather weren’t all that big on socialized gender roles and mostly wanted to share the entertainment they enjoyed with me. I grew up watching Disney movies along with Blade, Predator, Terminator, Alien, Resident Evil, Underworld, and so on. I had a nice blend of movies to watch, and I still have so many ideas for what I want to do. Wrangling those ideas into a committed schedule is another thing, but it’s still a goal.
The main genres I want to eventually dabble in are Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy, Action & Adventure, and Women’s Fiction. I plan on writing about vampires and witches in a modern-day setting. I want to write about assassins or conspiracy plots. I want to write more of a slice of life style book for a character. I also want to eventually venture into the unknown with technology and the future. I have a lot of ideas and a lot of years ahead of me to get them written.
I’ll probably create separate mailing lists for each genre so that I’m not promoting books to that people aren’t interested in that genre. For now, I’m building up my erotica and erotic romance brand. When I feel like I’ve done all that I can in that area, I’ll start writing in other genres too. It might take awhile since I still have a full-time job, and I plan to keep it that way, but it’s worth it.
As they say, the world is my oyster, or whatever the hell that means. I like writing, and I’m going to write whatever I want. I’m an adult, damnit, and I get to decide what route my business goes. I’m not going into this blindly, and I’m going to do all I can to have different areas on my website for each genre. But that is a future that’s far away at the moment, but I’m excited for it!
